Faculty Suite and Branded Learning Spaces

The Chicago School, a leading nonprofit university dedicated to training professionals who improve the health of individuals, organizations, and communities worldwide, partnered with HED to design its Dallas campus. The project balances a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic with functional, branded spaces that reflect the university’s national identity while addressing the specific needs of faculty and students in Dallas.

At the heart of the project is a pioneering faculty suite concept. More than a traditional retreat space, the suite blends functionality with comfort, offering faculty a well-positioned environment where private work and informal collaboration can thrive. The suite’s design supports interaction among professors, colleagues, and students, reinforcing The Chicago School’s culture of connection and mentorship.

Beyond the faculty suite, the campus features a carefully curated mix of learning and support spaces. Classrooms are designed for flexibility, accommodating a variety of teaching methods and group sizes. Operational offices and administrative areas provide efficient back-of-house support, while a library and student-focused amenities allow access to resources and opportunities for study, wellness, and community engagement. Open collaboration zones and enclosed meeting rooms punctuate the campus, offering spaces where students and staff can gather, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.

Design decisions were guided by the need to reflect The Chicago School’s cohesive brand identity across multiple national locations while giving Dallas its own sense of place. Textures, finishes, and furniture selections were chosen to create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that is both professional and approachable. Dynamic lighting adds energy and dimension to the environment, while consistent branding elements link the Dallas campus to its sister campuses across the country. This balance of consistency and local character strengthens the institution’s national presence while fostering pride in the Dallas community.

The campus design also reflects intentional vibrancy. Warm finishes and varied textures humanize the spaces, while bold graphic elements reinforce the school’s mission and values. The result is a campus that feels active and inspiring, serving not only as a functional environment for teaching and learning but also as a daily reminder of the university’s commitment to improving health and well-being at every scale.

Operating on a tight timeline, HED leveraged prior experience with higher education facilities and a strong understanding of The Chicago School’s brand aesthetic to deliver the project with precision. The outcome is a Dallas campus that elevates student and faculty experience, creates spaces for collaboration, and reinforces the university’s identity as a national leader in health-focused education.
