Modernizing and Consolidating a Secure Research Campus

HED partnered with a confidential client on a multi-phase modernization and lab consolidation project at a secure research campus. The initiative represents a significant investment in operational efficiency and scientific capability, uniting dispersed research functions into an optimized environment that supports advanced testing, collaboration, and long-term mission growth.

The project relocates approximately 13,400 square feet of highly specialized laboratory spaces from a leased facility into the existing campus, while consolidating and upgrading 48,300 square feet of current lab areas and renovating an additional 2,000 square feet of office space. This comprehensive realignment not only strengthens the client’s research infrastructure but also enhances the connection between teams that rely on close proximity to accelerate discovery and innovation.

Within the new 44,000-square-foot footprint, HED’s design brings together a series of complex environments—clean rooms, optical laser labs, thermal chambers, wet labs, and electromechanical labs—all configured to meet exacting performance, safety, and security standards. Each space is strategically planned for flexibility and precision, enabling the client to adapt to evolving technologies and research priorities.

Through this collaborative partnership, HED is helping the client achieve a seamless transition to a more unified and agile research environment. The result will be a smarter, more connected campus that supports scientific advancement and positions the organization for continued leadership in its field.
