Global Technology Workplace
Reimagining Connection and Collaboration Across a Campus
HED reimagined the future of work for a confidential client in Santa Clara, transforming an expansive 28-acre campus into a connected, people-centered environment. The global technology leader sought a unified and future-ready workplace that could support the next generation of research, development, and collaboration. HED responded with a cohesive design strategy that celebrates connectivity, balances productivity with well-being, and creates a flexible foundation for innovation to thrive.
The 4.5-acre campus expansion introduced a new office and laboratory building that ties seamlessly to the existing four structures through a consistent architectural language and a thoughtful landscape framework. From the start, the project centered on the employee experience; how people move, meet, and collaborate across the site. The design blurs boundaries between indoors and outdoors, with shaded courtyards, intimate meeting areas, and pedestrian links that foster engagement and reflection. The landscape functions as an extension of the workplace, offering space for focused work, casual conversation, and moments of rest.
Inside, the renovation of two primary buildings set the tone for the client’s evolving workplace model. The first, home to engineering and development teams, received a full exterior reskin and interior transformation. Its refreshed façade establishes a new campus identity, while renovated laboratories, now filled with natural light, enhance collaboration and technical performance. Updated systems provide capacity for continued growth and emerging lines of research.
The second building continues this approach, with interiors designed to attract and retain talent through openness, comfort, and flexibility. Wide-ranging workstation configurations, writable walls, and light-filled collaboration zones encourage teamwork and spontaneous dialogue. Conference rooms feature integrated audiovisual technology to connect colleagues across locations. Amenities such as quiet rooms, phone booths, nursing rooms, and well-stocked cafés create a holistic work environment that values wellness alongside performance.
Across the campus, color, material, and light are used to define movement and energy, reinforcing a sense of unity and shared purpose. Reconfigured interiors integrate laboratories, offices, and collaboration spaces into a fluid ecosystem where discovery feels natural and connection comes easily.
By aligning architecture, engineering, and workplace strategy, HED delivered a modern campus that embodies both technological precision and human connection. The Santa Clara renovation represents more than a physical transformation; it reflects a culture of innovation and belonging that draws people together and strengthens the spirit of collaboration at every scale.
