HED Recognized by Phius for Excellence in Passive Multifamily Design

November 3, 2025

HED has been recognized by Phius in its 2025 Passive Projects Design Competition, earning an Honorable Mention in the Low-Rise Multifamily category for Conservatory Apartments in Chicago, designed in collaboration with San F. King.

The juried competition celebrates fully certified passive building projects across North America and beyond, evaluating work through the lens of performance, cost-effectiveness, design quality, craftsmanship, and occupant health. Phius standards set a rigorous, climate-specific path toward a zero-carbon built environment, making this recognition both selective and consequential.

For HED, the honor reflects a long-standing commitment to thoughtful, high-performance design that balances environmental responsibility with the realities of urban housing. Conservatory Apartments stands as proof that energy efficiency and architectural ambition are not opposing forces, but productive partners—especially when decisions are made early and design is approached as an integrated act.
