Bill Kosik Appointed Chair of The Green Grid’s DC AI Impact Working Group
December 18, 2025
HED’s data center leader will guide industry collaboration at the intersection of AI growth, infrastructure performance, and resource effectiveness.
The Green Grid (TGG) has appointed Bill Kosik, PE, CEM, LEED AP, Sector Leader at HED, as Chair of its newly established DC AI Impact Working Group. Approved by TGG’s Executive Leadership Council, Kosik will lead a cross-industry effort focused on understanding and advancing how artificial intelligence workloads shape the performance, sustainability, and long-term resilience of data center infrastructure.
As AI accelerates demand for high-density computing environments, the industry faces a more complex equation. Energy efficiency alone is no longer sufficient. Water consumption, regional water stress, climate conditions, carbon intensity, and system resiliency all play a role in defining responsible growth. The DC AI Impact Working Group will examine these interdependencies and develop guidance that aligns technological advancement with measurable resource effectiveness.
The group is expected to collaborate closely with TGG’s Data Center Resource Effectiveness (DCRE) Working Group, which introduced the DCRE v1 metric as a more holistic framework for evaluating data center performance. By integrating energy, water, climate, and other environmental factors into a maturity-based scoring system, DCRE moves beyond single-dimension metrics and toward a more comprehensive understanding of impact.
Kosik’s appointment reflects both industry trust and HED’s ongoing leadership in high-performance data center design. His role will include establishing the working group under TGG’s bylaws, convening members across the technical committee, and guiding early discussions as the industry works to define how AI-driven infrastructure can evolve responsibly.
