Culture
At HED, we believe thoughtful design starts with thoughtful people. We value the diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and talents that not only make our work better, but make our workplace stronger. As an integrated architecture and engineering company, we are committed to work that reflects our collective wisdom and our shared values.
Our workplace is welcoming, grounded, and authentic. It’s a place we’re proud to share, both with our team and those considering joining it.
We are committed to continuous learning. From licensure and certifications to employee resource groups that bring people together around shared experiences, we support your growth and development at every step.
Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)
At HED, equity is a practice. It shapes how we lead, how we hire, and how we collaborate. We build inclusion into every part of our culture through transparent policies, inclusive benefits, and intentional opportunities for connection and growth.
Our JEDI Council plays a key role in guiding this work. Together, we focus on equitable pay practices, inclusive recruitment, and continuous learning. We support employee resource groups that reflect our people’s lived experiences and provide space for conversation, mentorship, and community.
Equity also informs how we engage beyond our walls. We partner with Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprises, support DEI-focused industry organizations, and offer paid volunteer time so employees can contribute to the causes that matter to them.
We know diverse teams lead to smarter design and more thoughtful outcomes, for our clients, for our communities, and for the future we’re shaping together. And that’s something we’re proud of.

Commitment
We’re committed to a culture where equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice are embedded in how we work every day. That means joining a team where your voice is heard, your perspective is valued, and you’re encouraged to bring your whole self to the work we do together.
This commitment has earned us recognition from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) as a JUST organization, and a place among the National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For. It also drives our role as a signatory of both the AIA 2030 Commitment and the MEP 2040 Challenge, where we’re advancing sustainable, people-centered solutions across the built environment.
These aren’t just accolades. They reflect how we hold ourselves accountable, challenge ourselves to grow, and work with purpose to make lasting impact.
HED | IDEAS (Intern Development for Architecture and Engineering Students)
At HED, we’re committed to personal and professional development by investing in the next generation. The IDEAS internship program is a cornerstone of HED’s commitment to fostering the next generation of professionals who will shape the future of our industry. It gives students more than just a glimpse into professional practice and fully immerses them in it. Through hands-on project work and one-on-one mentorship with architects and engineers, interns become active members of our teams, contributing to real design solutions. Weekly workshops open doors to the business side of the profession, exploring topics rarely covered in school but essential for career success.
Here, interns don’t just shadow other workers. They collaborate, problem-solve, and grow within a culture driven by design excellence, innovation, and integrated practice.

Community
We recognize the power of the built environment to shape the health and well-being of the populations it serves, the communities it touches, and the environment that surrounds it. Our work reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, from resilient design strategies to LEED certification, extending the life and impact of every building well beyond its walls.
That responsibility doesn’t stop at our projects. We embrace the humanitarian role of design through volunteerism, outreach, and partnerships that strengthen the communities where we live and work. We lead with purpose, build with care, and contribute to a future rooted in connection, resilience, and collective well-being.
